We are recruiting for a Vice President, Labor Relations to join ScionHealth.  The successful applicant will be required to be located in California.  


Directs all functions of the Labor Relations Department companywide. Provides legal counsel concerning all union issues in union facilities, including collective bargaining strategies and negotiations, contract administration, and labor related charges.  Develops and implements proactive strategies and plans to continue union-free status, as applicable.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees implementation of strategic plans related to collective bargaining contract negotiations, administration, grievance arbitrations, litigating charges, managing strikes, pickets, and press conferences.  Provides legal counsel on all labor issues for ScionHealth.  Provides legal advice to Support Center office concerning Support Center transactions involving union issues.
  • Maintains union-free status, where applicable, by designing and implementing proactive labor relations plans that respond to union organizing activity.  Reponses include information campaigns, direct communication, labor relations audits, and providing legal advice to management teams.
  • With full staff management responsibility, directs and coaches staff in providing legal counsel companywide.
  • Oversees and provides labor relations/management training for management and supervisory staff in non-union facilities.  Advises and assists facilities in the implementation of human resources programs to reduce the risk of union organizing drives.
  • Engages outside counsel, manages the relationships, and oversees related decisions.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with union officials, relevant Boards and Agencies.
  • Develops and oversees departmental budget for Labor Relations.
  • Provides periodic updates to senior management on labor relations matters.
  • Maintains professional working relationships with colleagues in the healthcare industry.


  • Expert knowledge of applicable Labor Relations and Employment laws and regulations
  • Expert knowledge of collective bargaining contract negotiation and administration process
  • Multi-task oriented

  • Ability to translate strategies to departmental objectives and activities
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry
  • Approximate percent of time required to travel:   40



  • Juris Doctor degree.


  • Member of State Bar.


  • 7-10 years of labor law experience, including collective bargaining negotiations, union organizing campaigns, union contract interpretation, general employment law matters, practice before the National Labor Relations Board and grievance arbitrations.
  • Experience managing the Labor Relations function for a large corporation.

Depending on Candidate’s qualifications, we may fill this at a different level.
