Day Shift

Schedule:
Monday - Friday
8am - 4:30pm

Weekends not needed. 

Pay: 16+ depending on experience.

As our most acute level of care, our specialty hospitals offer the same critical care patients receive in a traditional hospital or intensive care unit, but for an extended recovery period. Our clinicians play a vital role in the recovery process for chronic, critically ill and medically complex patients.

Job Summary

As a Shower Aid in the SAU (Sub-Acute Unit), you will play a crucial role in providing essential care and support to patients who require ventilator assistance. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that patients receive safe and comfortable showers while adhering to strict infection control protocols and maintaining patient dignity.

Essential Functions

  • 1. Patient Care:

    • Assist ventilator-dependent patients with personal hygiene routines, including bathing and showering.

    • Ensure the safety and comfort of patients during shower sessions, considering their specific medical needs.

    • Monitor patients closely for any signs of distress or changes in condition during showers.

    2. Infection Control:

    • Adhere to strict infection control practices, including proper hand hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

    • Maintain a clean and sanitized environment in the shower area to prevent the spread of infections.

    3. Communication:

    • Collaborate with the nursing staff and respiratory therapists to coordinate shower schedules for patients.

    • Report any changes in a patient’s condition or concerns to the healthcare team promptly.

    4. Equipment Maintenance:

    • Ensure that shower equipment is in good working condition and report any malfunctions or repairs needed.

    • Assist in the setup and breakdown of shower equipment as needed.

    5. Patient Support:

    • Provide emotional support to patients during showers to maintain their dignity and address any concerns or anxiety they may have.

    • Assist patients with mobility as needed, using appropriate lifting and transfer techniques.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Must have good and regular attendance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function under stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Approximate percent of time required to travel:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Additional Qualifications

  •  Previous experience in a healthcare setting, especially in a respiratory care or critical care unit, is advantageous.

  • CPR Certification.

  • Understanding of infection control protocols and the ability to follow them rigorously.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Empathetic and compassionate approach to patient care.

  • Physical stamina and the ability to assist with patient mobility.


Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of course for nursing assistants.

Licenses/Certification

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification
  • BLS Certification

Experience

  • Minimum six months’ experience in acute or long term care facility.
