We are recruiting a Director, Health Information Management to join our Hospital Division Clinical Operations Team in Louisville, KY.

Directs the company's medical record policies, procedures, and activities.  Responsible for providing support, guidance and medical record process expertise for the HIM departments in the hospitals.  Serves as knowledge expert in medical records and related compliance issues. Directs compliance with applicable regulatory requirements related to medical records and HIPAA.

Essential Functions:

  • Creates and drives overall business plan for Health Information Management for the hospital division. Serves as business contract liaison and point of contact for release of records, content management system and forms vendors & oversees monthly billing.

  • Develops, recommends, administers, and updates departmental policies and procedures and quality control programs.

  • Analyzes and interprets HIM statistical data and adjusts business processes accordingly.  Directs the preparation and maintenance of routine departmental records and reports as well as special and periodic reports and/or analyses.

  • Investigates trends and developments in HIM and develops operation manuals, outline methods, procedures, and techniques reflecting applicable advances in the field to guide professional and technical staff.

  • Sets policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws regarding the healthcare record and privacy laws. Identifies potential risk management situations & directs quality improvement of Medical Records Departments.

  • Provides orientation to new HIM staff as needed, HIM consultations and site visits of HIM departments requiring oversight per state requirements.

  • Develops & provides a tools & educational opportunities to hospital HIM staff that promotes quality HIM practices, collaboration & professional development.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations:
  • Expert knowledge of medical records
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements regarding medical records and patient information.

  • Expert knowledge of access and release of information and techniques for record completion.

  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to multi-task & manage in a complex organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationship skills with team and field.

  • Approximate percent of time required to travel:   15


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or related field required.  Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business, informatics or related field preferred.

Licenses/Certification:

  • RHIA required

Experience:

  • 5+ years medical records experience in an acute healthcare setting required.

  • Experience managing complex medical record department required.

  • Project management or consulting experience preferred. 

  • Experience in multi-facility healthcare system desired.
